One of the leading applied science colleges in the country, IIT Kanpur, along Thursday entered into a partnership with Swedish telecommunication equipment maker, Ericsson, to deploy Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) to monitor airwave pollution levels in Delhi.

"With support from Ericsson, we will develop and deploy India's first off N.B. -IoT based low cost particulate sensors at binary locations across Delhi", S. Tripathi, Head of Department, Civilised Engineering at IIT Kanpur, said in a program line. "The collection and analysis of this data can personify of crucial help in addressing the peri of publicize befoulment", he aforesaid.

As part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Ericsson will use locally-developed air prize sensors that are capable of sharing situation data including PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 levels at defined time intervals, leading to improve monitoring and analysis of data collected from incompatible parts of the capital. The findings will be joint with local anesthetic authorities and other of import stakeholders on a periodic basis, said the report.

"The sensors are automated and will relay info connected defined clock time intervals, providing data along pollution levels, sources and locations in a sustainable and cost-efficient way", said Nitin Bansal, Head of Ericsson India.

With pollution levels in Delhi reaching stratospheric levels every winter, policy makers need to be more proactive to fix the country's capital a cleaner, greener and less harrowing place to bouncy in. However, minded that the city is routinely ranked as peerless of the most polluted metros around the world, it will atomic number 4 interested to run across if this initiative will result in some actual change connected the ground.
